For example, trade-off techniques would pair benefits such as 'drive time' and 'checkout waiting' in a matrix, and consumers would be asked to fill in all boxes in the matrix, from their most preferred combination to the least preferred.

Once the hierarchy of benefits is established the potential outcome of improved perceptions can be modelled using these benefits/ utilities.
