We use SPSS for its range of built in multi-variate analyses and its programming ability. SPSS produces tabulations of data; and it's usually very easy to interface directly with other tabulation packages so that SPSS can be used solely as an analysis engine. Often we are used by other agencies to add value to their own projects.
