Our approach, whenever possible, is to use a truly bi-lingual and bi-cultural researcher to moderate the work and so we use native speakers resident in UK, or UK nationals resident in the target country. If the project is too big for one such moderator, that person would brief the other local moderator and undertake a proportion of the work. We try to avoid the (all too common) situation where an English speaker has to rely entirely on the English skills of local researchers to communicate all the subtleties of the research requirements.
